I made my Saturday list this morning, part of my plan to stay organized and on track. I only have one day "off" so I have to make the most of it. Our days and evenings are packed and I don't always have time to get to things I need/want to do (that's why lists are so nice for me on Saturdays...or any day for that matter, so I can see progress). Although sometimes I find it's good to ditch the list and go with the flow too. I've gotten better about that since being married to Bill. Like yesterday for example, A friend that I don't get to see often, called and asked if I wanted to meet her (about a half hour away). I had a long to do list but decided to chuck it so I could see her. Before I left to meet her, Bill and I decided to last minute invite some new friends over for dinner. This made things rushed but I went with it and we had a wonderful day visiting with friends.
After lunch today we went as a family to the library, one of our kids favorite activities. I gave them each a limit of 5 books and 1 movie, of course we went way over the book limit, always happens. It's so fun to come home with big stacks of books. The kids will plop themselves down in the living room when we get home and spend the next half hour looking through all their new treasures.
I had promised Anna awhile ago that I would take her out for coffee. (It's such a fun grown up thing to do for kiddos). Since life has been so busy I haven't had a chance to make good on that promise (shame on me). I have sensed that Anna needed some alone time away with Mom, so while the other kids settled down to watch one of their library movies I took Anna and we went off to Starbucks. Starbucks had a buy one get one free on their holiday drinks, so we both enjoyed a peppermint hot chocolate (for the price of one). It was a cheap date but worth more then you could put a price on. We spent our time talking and laughing and drawing. I tried to talk about the things that interest her and drawing is one of them. She is getting really good at it.
Another last minute decision, when we left Starbucks was to stop at Goodwill and do a little shopping. Anna found a really cute sweater, I found a pair of shoes and then we found some Christmas gifts that I am so excited about. Bill and I weren't sure what to do about Christmas this year, money is tight and we also don't want to just collect things that we won't be able to take with us overseas. When I found these items I called Bill and he agreed that this would be a great idea for Christmas for the kids, and what's even cooler is that two of the things I bought were things that I have been looking for. I am super excited about the Bullfrogs and Butterflies CD's (anyone else know of these?). I grew up with these character building songs and have been wanting to find them for our family...what a treasure. Oh, and the Letter Factory DVD, well, I have been keeping my eye on those on Amazon. Bill had asked me to wait and see if I could find a better deal. Goodwill definitely had them for a better deal. :) (if you have preschoolers I HIGHLY recommend them. James and Claire learned all their letter sounds watching this DVD).
For supper tonight I made these awesome Sweet potato fries. I'm pretty sure I ate most of them. :) I will most definitely be making them again. We are trying to eat much healthier (another post).
I also made granola cereal this evening. I wasn't going to because I wanted to check "relax" off my to do list as soon as the kiddos went to bed, but the boys were really looking forward to it, so I made it.
I read a really good article that you must read. This very topic has been on my heart a lot lately. Just a quote to wet your appetite, "But when I observed Jesus’s influence on his disciples and saw how he spent time personally with them, away from the crowds, and affirmed them uniquely for their personality–(John, the disciple Jesus loved; Peter, the rock; Thomas, a man in whom there is no guile.”) I began to realize that each of us wants to be defined by God’s unique personality that he created, and to be validated for who we really are in a personal way."- Sally Clarkson
I didn't do the laundry today, but there is always tomorrow...or the day after. :)
Working on checking off the important things (and sometimes laundry isn't one of them).
And now I am going to check "relax" off my list.
It's been a good day.
Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Oven-Roasted Sweet Potato Fries
(sorry no picture...we ate them too fast to get a picture)
1 teaspoon Seasoned Salt
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon Garlic Powder With Parsley
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1 1/2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cut lengthwise into 1/2-inch-thick slices
2 tablespoons Olive Oil
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. In small bowl, combine Seasoned Salt, paprika, Garlic Powder With Parsley and chili powder; set aside.
In large bowl, toss sweet potatoes with Olive Oil; sprinkle with seasoning mixture and toss to coat. On jelly roll pan sprayed with nonstick cooking spray, arrange potatoes in single layer. Roast, turning once, 30 minutes or until potatoes are tender and golden. Serve, if desired, with additional Seasoned Salt.
I also made granola cereal this evening. I wasn't going to because I wanted to check "relax" off my to do list as soon as the kiddos went to bed, but the boys were really looking forward to it, so I made it.
