We had a pretty packed weekend. Friday night we went to a Christmas party with a group of people that we have been getting to know over the past year. We left the kids at Bill's parents for the evening so we could have a kid free night to enjoy being with friends. We stayed out late laughing with a great group of people. I am so very thankful for all the different friendships that the Lord has brought into lives. The stage we are in right now is hard sometimes, but the great benefit of it all is meeting new people and developing relationships.
Saturday was a big day in my (extended) family's lives. It was the day of the "big reveal". My brother Matt and his wife Dana are expecting their first baby. They found out a few weeks ago what they were having, but decided to keep it a secret so they could have a gender reveal party. Since they live too far away and couldn't be at the party, we kept in contact via phone. My brother texted me a picture of the cake.

We took a picture of what we were all voting for...the majority said boy.
My sister put me on speaker phone so I could hear as they cut into the cake to announce if it would be pink or blue. What a blast to hear all the excitement and joy as the cake was cut.
And the cake revealed it's a boy! We are all so excited for them. I wish we could have been there but being on the phone was a very close second.

While the party by my family was going on, we were having a little party of our own. Well, not really a party but it was fun none the less. We had some good friends over for dinner. Bill made an awesome South Asian meal, butter chicken and dahl and I made my favorite Snickerdoodle cake for dessert.
After dinner the guys watched some college football, and the women talked. :) It was another really great evening. I know I have written about feeling out of touch with friends and feeling like people are forgetting us, but honestly it doesn't apply to all people. We still have some true friendships and for that I am very thankful.
I know Sunday is actually the beginning of the week but I am including it in my weekend. We had a relaxing day, which is often needed because I feel like we are always busy. We had church in the morning then football and naps in the afternoon. I took a three hour nap, amazing! I never do that, but I must have needed the sleep. Tonight we continued reading our daily advent devotional and lit the second candle. The kids (at least the older two) look forward to this event every evening now. It's been a great way for us to spend quality time as a family.
And with that my thankful list continues,
#32 babies...especially the boy variety
#33 people who care
#34 butter chicken
#35 a husband who is willing to cook and is good at it
#36 naps
#37 Advent, a time to slow down and think about what Christmas is really about
